Mailed, emailed, faxed, or hand delivered applications and r sum s will not be accepted.** Contributes to the agency s public safety mission by directing daily activities of security supervisors and support staff as shift commander in an institutional setting. Coordinates and reviews the work of others on assigned shift to ensure a safe, secure and productive environment. Leads, develops and counsels staff. Responsible for work schedules, duty rosters and performance management system for staff. Conducts ongoing inspections to ensure compliance with security post audit, policies and procedures governing all aspects of institutional operations. Interacts with management, staff, visitors, offenders and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations. ## Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Drivers License. DCJS Certification. Progressive security working experience within the Virginia Department of Corrections. Extensive working knowledge of departmental policies, institutional policies, operating practices, procedures, and offender programs. Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management. Extensive experience in the supervision of corrections staff. Ability to sufficiently receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions. Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls. ## Preferred Qualifications Prefer coursework in Criminal Justice or related field, LEAD graduate or equivalent applicable experience or training. Prefer knowledge and experience with Evidence Based Practices. Prefer working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs. ## Special Requirements All applicants are subject to a background investigation and pre-employment drug screen.
